WHY I MADE IT
I needed a series-based Winry costume for the skit "Super Elric Bros." -- and the quickest, easiest choice seemed to be her Mechanic's Outfit. Especially when I found out that her suit in the Manga is a khaki color, not lavender.
COSTUME CONSTRUCTION
Biggest Cop-Out Costume Ever. Originally, I intended to wear her second top, the one with straps, a white band down the front, and a zipper (as in the reference image), but I ran out of time and churned out a tube top using a black knit fabric I had lying around. Bad idea in hindsight, as it stretched out and began to droop heavily. >.< I needed safetypins and lots of tape. The suit itself is a real mechanic's suit purchased from an Army Surplus seller on ebay. I only took it in a bit to be more flattered, but even then it didn't do much for me. >.> The kercheif is leftover from the fabric I used for Sango's apron, and I had NO IDEA how to tie that on my head, so any shots that show the back of my head are rather... odd. >.> The sandals were a pair of flip-flops I got at the thrift store, and then painted. They gave me awful blisters though. ;_; I quickly retired this costumes, because it was far from my best work, and I didn't feel anywhere NEAR attractive wearing it. (I've since dropped about 10 pounds, and might be interested in making a new one, sometime...)
